A Wrexham mental health charity and the town’s Saith Seren Welsh Centre have teamed up to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity.

Saith Seren had a special delivery of three cases of Aviation Gin from Ryan Reynolds just days after the Deadpool film star and his fellow actor Rob McElhenny were allowed to take ownership of Wrexham AFC. The gin cases were accompanied by a cryptic note from the man himself that reads: ”To the folks at Saith Seren: Some for you and some for me. Hopefully see you soon – Ryan Reynolds.”

Now the town-centre bar is teaming up with Advance Brighter Futures, a local mental health charity that helped more than 700 people this year, to make sure that local charities benefit from the special delivery.

Chris Evans, chair of the community cooperative that runs Saith Seren, said: ”We’ve already sold some of the gin and all the proceeds will go to three nominated charities. But we also wanted to offer people a fair chance to win a part of this unique gift – a raffle seemed like the fairest way to do that. So we’ve teamed up with ABF as one of the charities we’re supporting to try to make some money for them in these difficult times.

Saith Seren celebrates its ninth birthday in January and Nia Jones, who manages the bar at Saith Seren, said she was hoping both Ryan and Rob could come to the bar to sample the gin once the restrictions come to an end: ”Ryan does say that there’s some for us and some for him in his note, so I may keep one back behind the bar for us to share.

“The gin has gone down very well with everyone who’s tried it and being able to give all the money to some very special local charities is great. The boost the town has had from these two Hollywood stars can’t be overestimated and it’s great that all the pubs who’ve had cases from Ryan have done the same.”

Cath Taylor, Business Development Officer at Advance Brighter Futures, added: “We are thrilled to be chosen as one of the charities who will benefit from the raffle. Any money that is donated to us goes directly to helping local people, so we are very grateful for this. Like everyone else, we are very much looking forward to welcoming Ryan – and Rob – to Wrexham when it’s safe to do so.”
