Local mental health and well-being charity Advance Brighter Futures (ABF) is issuing a plea to local businesses to help supply a new shed for its popular allotment group.
ABF has been supporting people in the Wrexham area for many years and restarted its much-loved allotment group called ‘A Place To Grow’ in August, after it had to be put on hold following lockdown in March.
Unfortunately, one of the sheds the group uses is now in a very poor state, which has led the charity to ask if there are any local businesses who might be able to provide a new one.
ANY SUPPORT IS APPRECIATED
Lorrisa Roberts, Chief Officer at ABF, said: “Our trusty shed – which is over 10 years old – is sadly no longer fit for purpose, so we’re asking if there is a local business who can help us find a new one. If someone could donate a shed to us, that would be amazing, although we understand how difficult things are for everyone at the present time. Any support you can offer us would be greatly appreciated by everyone involved with the allotment group…it’s such an important part of the local community.”
A Place To Grow is made up of people who get referred to ABF by the Community Mental Health Team. They meet weekly on Wednesday’s (10am-12pm) at Erddig Allotment (Hollow/Thomas Fields) on Erddig Road, and having this valuable social contact has greatly helped the wellbeing of those who’ve attended the group.

Hannah Wilcock, who works on A Place To Grow, said: “Our allotment group has been so important since it restarted in August. I’m so lucky in that I get to see some wonderful things happening around me all the time at our allotment patch, and it’s those moments that show its real value in the community.
“Recently, a small group of the people who come along have been working together to create new pathways by laying paving slabs, doing a fantastic job. But the really special part of this is seeing friendships and the real connections happen between those people over the last couple of sessions. It’s when you see those things happen in front of your eyes, you realise how great this group is.”
